World Water Monitoring Day is a global initiative observed every year on September 18. It started in 2003 through America’s Clean Water Foundation and is now organized by EarthEcho International as the EarthEcho Water Challenge—an inspiring citizen science campaign engaging over 1.7 million participants across 150+ countries .
What’s the point? Communities everywhere are encouraged to monitor local waterways for key indicators like temperature, acidity (pH), clarity (turbidity), and dissolved oxygen—data that helps us better understand and protect water quality .
Here’s how you can get involved with H2O Water Network:
- Test your favorite water spot—river, stream, lake, or creek—any time around September 18.
- Send us your dives—snap a photo of your monitoring efforts and tell us where you’ve been.
- If you’re a storyteller at heart, share a short story (200–300 words) about your organization’s monitoring work.
- Email your contributions to john@h2owaternetwork.org.
Together, we can elevate the impact of our work, contributing valuable data and inspiring others to protect our waters, one monitoring test at a time.
