The need for critical investments in water infrastructure has never been more urgent. As H2O Water Network continues to advocate for better water management, we recognize the vital role of federal funding in ensuring clean, affordable, and accessible water for all. That’s why we are encouraging our supporters to take action and contact their Representatives and Senators to sponsor funding for water infrastructure in the Fiscal Year 2026.
On the table is a bipartisan letter requesting much-needed funding to maintain and improve the nation’s water infrastructure. This letter is backed by leading organizations like the American Rivers Action Fund, Clean Water Action, National Association of Clean Water Agencies, and many others, including Rep. Emilia Strong Sykes and Rep. Rob Bresnahan, Jr.. The request focuses on funding critical programs that not only support public health and the environment but also drive economic growth and national security.
In the wake of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, significant progress was made to support water infrastructure programs. However, to continue strengthening the resilience, sustainability, and efficiency of our water systems, more investment is needed. Over two million Americans still lack reliable access to running water, while millions more struggle with the rising costs of water services. Aging infrastructure and contamination continue to pose serious challenges for communities across the country.
This year’s funding request includes a critical investment of $4.8 billion each for the Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds (SRFs), which support water infrastructure improvements nationwide. Additionally, there is a request for $280 million to fund the Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant Program, and $73 million for the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA), which helps finance large-scale water projects. The funding would also include $50 million for Household Decentralized Wastewater System Grants, which are crucial for improving private water systems in rural and underserved communities.
These funding programs directly benefit every state by supporting water infrastructure, from rural towns to major cities. By advocating for these investments, we ensure that our water systems are better equipped to handle future challenges, reduce pollution, and make water more affordable for families. Congress must take action to prioritize water infrastructure for the long term, and now is the time to make our voices heard.
We urge all of you to join in advocating for these important investments. You can make a real difference by contacting your elected officials and encouraging them to sign onto this letter in support of water infrastructure funding. By doing so, you are helping protect the future of clean water for all communities and promoting economic resilience and public health.
