Why this matters here
Appalachia’s landscape, with its steep slopes and long history of industrial activity, has made our communities uniquely vulnerable to flooding. Water that once soaked slowly into forested hillsides now races downhill faster and with more force. Restoring and protecting that landscape, including through investments in nature-based solutions, is one of the most effective ways to better protect Appalachian communities from the next big storm.
This webinar will lay out the problems that need to be addressed, walk through potential solutions, and feature communities that have already begun putting these ideas to work at the local level. It is a practical look at how working with the land, rather than against it, can reduce flood risk across the region.
