Some benefits ask you to sit through a program to get to the cause. This one is the other way around. Heart of the Highlands is an evening of live piano music in a beautiful valley setting, and every ticket helps the Mountain Watershed Association defend two of our local watersheds. Heart of the Highlands: A Piano Recital Benefit
An evening built around water
The music comes from the Bravo Piano Club, which practices all year for this one night. Their program carries a fitting theme: “Mountains, Valleys, and Their Rivers.” It is a thoughtful, nature-inspired set of pieces, performed in the Sparks in the Valley event space with the Laurel Highlands right outside the windows. The evening also includes food catered by Sparks in the Valley, plus complimentary wine and non-alcoholic drinks donated by MWA members.

What your ticket protects
This is where the mission comes in. Proceeds support the Mountain Watershed Association’s legal efforts to protect the Indian Creek and Four Mile Run watersheds from the potential impacts of the Rustic Ridge coal mine expansion. That expansion was recently approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, and MWA has filed a legal appeal. Defending a watershed in front of the state takes real resources, and an evening like this is one of the ways a community pays for the fight.
