If you get your water from a private well, spring, or cistern, keeping it safe is on you, and that includes keeping an eye on PFAS. On Thursday, July 16, Penn State Extension is hosting a free one-hour workshop in Uniontown to help private water supply owners understand these “forever chemicals,” how to test for them, and what to do if they turn up. Better still, everyone who qualifies goes home with a complimentary water test worth about $300.

A free water test, too
Everyone who qualifies gets a complimentary water test valued at around $300. To qualify, you need to:
- Register for and attend the live workshop
- Live at a primary residence (not a camp or summer home) with a private well, spring, or cistern
One test is allowed per household. After the workshop, you collect your own samples and drop them at a designated location within a few days, and an accredited lab handles the analysis. Seating and tests are both limited, so only sign up if you can attend and finish the testing.
