Our partners at Three Rivers Waterkeeper have a full July lined up, and they have opened it to the whole H2O network. These events run through the lower reaches of the Allegheny, Monongahela, and Ohio, part of the same basin we all share, and there is something here for just about everyone: boat tours, a kayak trip, a tire cleanup, water sampling, and even a night of printmaking. If you have been meaning to get out on the water this summer, here is your chance.
Here is the July lineup:
- July 8 (Wed) – 3 Rivers Watch on Boat 2.0, Plastic Free July Edition: Head out on the Allegheny River to see firsthand how plastic pollution moves through our waterways.
- July 11 (Sat) – Colors of the River at Dead Man’s Hollow: Explore what natural pigments can tell us about the health of a stream.
- July 11 (Sat) – Yough Community Tire Round-Up: Team up with Mountain Watershed Association and Three Rivers Waterkeeper to pull tires out of the Youghiogheny River between West Newton and Buena Vista.
- July 12 (Sun) – Summer Salt Watch Volunteer Sampling: Help collect water samples across the Pittsburgh region to measure baseline salt levels. Email Justin at justin@threeriverswaterkeeper.org to take part.
- July 14 (Tues) – What’s in Our Rivers? at Aliquippa Library: Dig into the history of the rivers and where water quality stands today. Pre-register and you will go home with an at-home water test kit and filter.
- July 22 (Wed) – Riverhorse Nakadate presents Water Lines: Three Rivers Waterkeeper is the nonprofit partner for this book release event at Patagonia Pittsburgh, with nature-based linocut printmaking on hand.
- July 25 (Sat) – 3 Rivers Watch Kayaking on the Monongahela: Paddle the Mon on free kayaks and learn how to spot and report water pollution. Space is limited.
