If you’re looking for ways to get outside, get your kids into nature, or support a local watershed organization doing great work – Jacobs Creek Watershed Association has three events coming up this summer worth putting on your calendar.
Young Naturalist Camp – June 8-10
JCWA’s third annual Young Naturalist Camp is an overnight immersive experience for kids ages 10-14, held at the beautiful Laurelville Retreat Center. It’s the next step up from their popular Tot-Time and Nature Explorer day camps – and it delivers the kind of hands-on outdoor education that sticks.
Camp activities include:
- Scat and track identification
- Bird hikes
- Land use education
- Flatwater kayaking
- Environmental stewardship
- Swimming, campfires, and games

10th Annual Fishing Derby – June 20
Saturday, June 20th at Greenlick Run Lake. All ages welcome. The derby runs 5:00-8:00pm, with JCWA staff and volunteers on hand to weigh and measure your catches.
- 1st-3rd: Largest Cumulative Weight (Adult)
- 1st-3rd: Largest Cumulative Weight (Child)
- 1st: Shortest Fish (by length)
- 1st: Largest Bass (by weight)

Meat Raffle Fundraiser – Drawing June 21
Only 500 tickets available at $10 each. The prize: a half pig, half cow, and a brand new 10.4 cu. ft. Insignia chest freezer – the ultimate Father’s Day package.
