The Ohio River Basin Alliance Summit runs October 14 through 16 at the Columbus Convention Center under the theme “Healthy Waters, Healthy Communities, Healthy Economies.” The discounted hotel block expires September 23, and early bird registration pricing ends October 1.
Why this year’s summit matters more than most
The summit pulls together the whole basin: federal agencies, state programs, researchers, utilities, and the watershed groups doing the actual streambank work, from Pittsburgh to Paducah. And it comes at a consequential moment. A bipartisan push in Congress for a dedicated Ohio River restoration program, modeled on what the Great Lakes and Chesapeake Bay have had for years, has been gathering co-sponsors and momentum all year. If that effort succeeds, the plans and partnerships discussed in Columbus will shape where the money goes. Small watershed groups that want the Upper Ohio’s headwaters represented in that conversation need to be in the room.
