The Casselman River Watershed Association (CRWA) has two July events lined up, and they make a nice pair: a beginner-friendly float down one of the prettiest stretches of the Youghiogheny, and a potluck and annual meeting with the pool open. Here are the details.
CRWA’s First Middle Yough Sojourn, July 11
On Saturday, July 11, CRWA is holding its very first Sojourn on the Middle Yough, the Class 1 (easy) section that is ideal for beginners. Plan on three to four hours on the water, and bring something to eat and drink if you would like. There is no charge to join, though donations are always welcome.
Bringing your own boat? Call Roger at 814-279-4514 by July 10 to reserve your spot and sort out shuttling, then report to Ramcat Launch at 10 a.m.
Need to rent? Call the Ohiopyle Trading Post at 724-329-1450 by July 1 and mention CRWA so they know you are with the group. Rental runs $59.70 and covers the boat, life jacket, paddle, and helmet. Renters meet at the Ohiopyle Trading Post at 10 a.m. on July 11. If anything changes, registered paddlers will hear from Roger or the Trading Post directly.
Annual Meeting and Picnic, July 15
Four days later, on Wednesday, July 15, CRWA gathers for its Annual Meeting and Picnic, starting with a potluck at 6 p.m. CRWA provides the meat, soda, beer, plates, and utensils, so you just bring a side dish to share. After dinner comes the annual meeting, where members elect the officers and board, with additional board nominations taken from the floor. The pool will be open too, so bring the family and make an evening of it. An RSVP with your headcount helps CRWA know how much food to buy.
