Looking to learn something new about the natural world this year? The Clarion Conservation District has you covered.
Thanks to a DEP Environmental Education Grant, they’re hosting a series of free programs running from January through June—covering everything from nature journaling to soil health to invasive species identification. And yes, participants get free stuff at every event.
Here’s what’s on the calendar:
January 22 | Noticing Nature: Winter Nature Journaling 5–6:30 PM at CCD Office, Clarion, PA Participants receive free journaling supplies.
February 25 | Noticing Changes: Phenology Webinar 5–6:30 PM | Online Participants receive a free book on phenology.
March 28 | Soil Health & Composting Workshop Time TBD | Sligo, PA Participants receive a free compost bin, book, and soil test kit.
March 31 | Noticing Changes: Invasive Species (Updated date) Time TBD | CCD Office, Clarion, PA Participants receive a free field guide and native plant.
May 16 | The Power of Plants: Forestry Walk Time TBD | Rimersburg Rod & Gun Club, Rimersburg, PA Participants receive a free native tree, tree tube, stake, and a chance to win invasive species removal tools.
June 13 | Water Workshop Time TBD | Toby Boat Launch, Clarion, PA All ages welcome! Free transportation available from Rimersburg. Participants receive discount coupons from Clarion River Brewing Company and entries to win a rain barrel, aquatic bug kit, or fish ID guide. Includes a free tour of PA American Water Facility.
June 27 | The Power of Plants: Rain Gardens & Riparian Buffers Time TBD | CCD Office, Clarion, PA Participants receive a free native plant.
How to Register
All programs are free, but registration is required. Most workshops are geared toward adults, though the June 13 Water Workshop welcomes all ages.
